Who is Eligible?

The Cancer Sucks Program is designed to support people who are currently undergoing 

cancer treatment or who have received cancer treatment within the previous five years. 

To be eligible, a patient must: 

- Have a confirmed cancer diagnosis. 

- Be currently undergoing treatment or have received cancer treatment within the previous five years. 

- Provide confirmation from their GP or treating specialist of their cancer diagnosis 

and relevant treatment history. 

- Be accessing an eligible service through The Patient Approach. 

- Complete a short Cancer Sucks Program registration and consent form to allow 

their credits to be administered and monitored. 

No Financial Means Test 

Patients are not required to demonstrate financial hardship to access the Cancer Sucks 

Program. Cancer can create financial pressure in many ways through reduced employment, time away from work, specialist costs, medications, travel, treatment expenses and the 

ongoing cost of supportive care. We do not believe patients should have to prove that they are experiencing financial hardship before being offered assistance. 

Exceptional Circumstances 

We also recognise that cancer and the long-term effects of treatment do not always fit 

neatly within a five-year timeframe. Patients who fall outside the standard eligibility criteria may be considered by the Cancer Sucks Program review committee on a case-by-case basis, subject to available program resources.
